Interview with Burlesque Troupe Succubus Sorority
The Succubus Sorority joins us today for an interview to tell us a bit about what it's like being in a burlesque troupe! You can find them here on Steamy as the Succubus Sorority, we hope they will be adding up some hot gear for their fans and other fun things soon.

First, can you tell us a little bit about the group?
We are the Succubus Sorority, based out of Raleigh, NC. We are an alternative performance troupe, experienced in belly dance, contemporary dance, fetish stage skits, go-go dancing, and burlesque. We also like to play with fire from time to time, and love spanking people.
Hot! How many members of the troupe are there, and can you tell me a little about everyone?
Right now we have 7 members- I am Lady Violet Arcane, the acting manager who likes to play with fire, whips, and other things caustic in nature; Veronica La'Roux is a saucy young lady from whom you never know what to expect; Gigi LeMore is a grade A burlesque performer who loves to tease the boys (and girls); Amaranth is an experienced belly dancer whose past is shrouded in mystery; Alexandria Sinclaire is an ex-librarian on the run from Her Majesty the Queen; our resident dance expert with her BFA in performance dance is Kira Callea; and the wild woman in the corner dripping raw sexuality is Saberess Rose.
We have a great support staff as well- Halo De'Mort is always on hand for general help and good advice, and stilt walking when needed; Logan Gabriel mixes all of our music for us and is our official 'House Dad' when we have a performance; and Deckan Trevinici, Rightous Whispers, Chad, and Jo are always lending a hand moving things around and escorting us about.
What a talented group. How did each of you become interested in Burlesque? Does anyone have formal dance training?
Kira Callea has her BFA in dance, and she uses it well. Amaranth has been belly dancing for many years, and has taught formal classes (and may do so again soon! Keep an eye on our FB page for further information). Vernica La'Roux has been interested in and involved in the alternative/fetish/BDSM scene for most of her adult life. Alexandria Sinclaire has a good costuming background and is an amazing make-up artist. Gigi LeMore is currently in school getting her fashion design degree, and has long had an interest in pin-up art- these two pursuits make her a must-see burlesque performer. Saberess Rose has a raw sexuality that shows on stage and lends itself to everything we do. I began doing fetish shows and burlesque when I was younger and living in Florida, and have continued to do so- the past several years have taken me all over the U.S., performing in several states. I moved to Raleigh last year and began the Succubus Sorority to fill my creative needs, and picked up my fellow Succubi along the way. We offer much more than just burlesque- we cater to crowds of varied interests, from fetish skits to belly dance and fire play.
What was your favorite performance like?
Our Atlanta performance for Secretroom.net's Halfway to Halloween party last May at the Jungle club was awesome! There were several hundred people in attendance, and we had a blast! Veronica and Vixy Latex (now retired from the Succubus Sorority as she is readying to move back to back to south Florida, we will miss her) 'summoned' an evil Succubus (myself), who punished them through floggings, spankings, hot wax, bondage, and a play peircing corset on Vixy's back. Gigi followed up with a sexy vampire burlesque performance where she bathed in blood. The energy from the audience was great, and it was a very memorable show for us all.
How do you come up with ideas for performances? Who does most of the brainstorming and choreography?
We all pitch in- we are often inspired by fashion, films, and music. We like to take themes and turn them into skits- for example the fetish school girl outfit can be turned into a skit where the school girl and the school marm are interacting (with a sound spanking from a ruler). Those of us in the skit run through a rehearsal, and the others sit and watch to ensure that everyone looks smooth. Gigi, Amaranth, and Kira Callea often do solo performances (burlesque, belly dance, and modern dance, respectively) so they choreograph their own skits with constructive criticism from everyone else, and they do the same for the multi-person skits.
What kind of music do you use?
We generally stay in the alternative/electronica range- EBM, industrial, gothic rock, electronic dance music. Amaranth loves industrial mixed with tribal dance beats, while Gigi likes to use big band and older artists like the Andrews Sisters. We try to ensure that the music and the performance sync up.
What types of outfits do you usually wear, and who comes up with them?
We base the outfits on the theme of the performance- for a more industrial skit, we break out the vinyl, but for a more sensual skit, we like lace and corsets. Gigi is partial to pasties, feathers, and sequins- classical burlesque fare, while I love my thigh-high vinyl boots, and Alexandria swears by corsets. Amaranth wears tribal and bellydance fashion, and Veronica has a wardrobe that is quintessential of the gothic fetishist. Saberess is very comfortable in her skin and never cares how much of it she shows, and Kira is very flashy in a dance performance style. Outfits play an important role in performances- based on someone's outfit, you can tell the position they are going to play; a dominant is in high heels, a submissive may have on lace panties, etc.
That sounds sexy. How raunchy do the performances get?
They are always sexy, but not always raunchy. Some of our shows get pretty wild, like when a Succubi gets stripped down, tied up, and spanked for being the naughty girl she is. But at times the shows are sensual, such as when a dance routine or hot wax is in play. You never know what to expect- every show is different!
What shows do you have coming up?
For CONFIRMED shows, we have Dirge Factory in Raleigh at Volume 11 on August 20th, and Flex nightclub's SYN-ERGY on September 24th and October 29th, also in Raleigh. We are always in discussion for new shows though, so keep up with us!
What's the process of putting together a show like?
We custom tailor our shows to the event- if there is a theme to an event, we adhere to it and produce shows along that vein. First we come up with the skit ideas, and then music and costuming for it. Our good friend Logan Gabriel takes care of our music, putting it on disk, and at the same time, we begin our costuming. Often we have something in our closets that will work, but just as often we put a costume together- we do a lot of custom work, much of which will be put in a new album on our Facebook page. Finally, we rehearse our performance to ensure all the bugs are worked out before stepping onto the stage.
If someone wants to book you for an event, what is the best way to get in touch with you?
succubussorority@live.com or they can look us up on Facebook and send us some mail.
If your fans want to keep in touch, how can they find photos of your events and performances?
Our Facebook page is The Succubus Sorority. We have plans for a website, but keep in touch with us on FB for now!
We have heard you're making a Succubus Sorority web store on Steamy Auctions. What types of products can we expect to see listed?
The Succubi love to make things, and we want everyone to have cool stuff to wear out and about! We will have many alternative accessories, such as hair pieces, pasties, and other fetish fashions! Alexandria Sinclaire is also a skilled artist, and we will have some beautiful fetish art pieces for sale. All of the profits from our Steamy Auctions web store will go to fund our props and costuming! We may also take custom orders as well, and several of us are skilled seamstresses.
Are there any other things you're working on that you'd care to tell us about?
We are always trying to expand our performance skills- I have a few secret weapons which are being made for me by skilled artisans right now, and when I get my hands on them, our performances are going to go up a notch!
